Stats insertion failed for entity...

Hello, I have been searching for a resolution to this error on my hosts.  We are using VMware vCenter Appliance version 5.5.0 build 3000241.  We are using the embedded database, no MSSQL involved in this.

I am seeing the error "Stats insertion failed for entity <esxhostname.domain.com> due to ODBC error."

However every search result I get on this error assumes its a MSSQL SQL Server Agent Job problem.  Is there some place in vCenter or the hosts where I specify the database?  could there be another root cause for this error?

our hosts are version 5.5.0 build 3116895.
