I installed a new boot disk in a Windows 7 computer, and then attached the old boot disk externally via eSATA.
What I want to do is boot up the external disk in a virtual machine.
I took it offline, and attempted to create a new virtual machine using the external drive as a SATA physical disk. But I can't save the VM settings, due to the dreaded and inscrutable "Internal Error".
Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do? (And if not, wouldn't that be a desirable feature?)
How do you get past the internal error?
If VMware Workstation can't do it, would it work in VirtualBox?
I've seen posts that suggest adding it as SCSI, but since the drive is already partitioned as SATA I'm thinking that wouldn't work.
