HID-USB device not working on existing VM after host Win 7 to 10 upgrade

I'm running Workstation PRO 11.1.2.

I have an existing a couple VMs, one with Windows XP and the other with Windows 7 (latest service packs in both cases). Prior to upgrading my host computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I could connect an HID-USB device (its a generic sensor and uses the built-in Windows drivers) with no problems. After upgrading my host computer to Windows 10, the VMWare Workstation still sees the HID-USB device in its "Removable Devices" menu for each of those VM's, however, selecting "Connect (DIsconnect from host)" leads to a "The connection for the USB device 'xxx' was unsuccessful. Driver error". I repeat that the device uses the Windows built-in HID-USB driver, no additional drivers are ever required.

Is this an issue with the host Windows 10? Or is it an interaction with Workstation 11 and Win 10? Workstation 11.1.2, my VM's and this device were working before when the host was Windows 7...

Anyone else experience issues like this after upgrading to Windows 10?
