How virtual Ethernet interface can report that physical Ethernet port goes down

I was not able to detect when the Ethernet physical port suporting a virtual EThernet interface is going down (cable unplugued or equivalent).

I need the information to handle it in our application

Would someone have a hint please ?

Another way would be to have access directly to the physical port status, but I didnt found in the doc either
