It could be lots of things, such as VLAN not allowed on a Cisco switch port, VLAN not assigned on a Port Group level (if you're using Virtual Switch Tagging), etc.
Are you using one subnet for both management and storage traffic?
And how exactly are checking that storage NIC can't ping anything?
