Converting pRDM to VMDK

I would like to convert a virtual machine from using pRDM disks to VMDK disks, so that I can back it up using Veeam.

I plan to shutdown the virtual machine, and then migrate it to a different datastore to convert the pRDM to VMDK. I did this on a test machine and it seems to have worked OK. However, I noticed on the test machine that the VMDK's that had been converted from pRDM, had the "Independent - Persistent" option selected on them.

I assume this is because the pRDM is setup that way by default?

Can I remove the Independent - Persistent option without any adverse effects to the virtual machine?
